Original Title: About Us
IHYA Foundation is a registered non-profit educational institution based in the province of Ontario in Canada. IHYA was founded in the winter of 1995 after five Toronto residents returned from their first Deen Intensive program in the United States.
The name “IHYA” was chosen because it captures the essence of Islamic revival as understood by generations of great scholars. The word comes from the title of the monumental work of the great Imam Hamid Al-Ghazali known as the “IHYA Ulum-ud-Din” or “Revival of the Islamic Sciences.”
IHYA Foundation grew over the years because as the number of first and second generation Muslims rapidly expanded so did the need to provide relevant and meaningful Islamic teachings firmly rooted in authentic scholarship and taught in a way that is dynamic and applicable to the modern world.
IHYA Foundation has spearheaded a variety of initatives over the years. It has created many opportunities for hundreds of students to learn their religion from qualified teachers through local weekly classes, summer programs, Deen Intensive and Rihla programs in Canada and abroad, and by facilitating visits to Canada by some of the best scholars living in the West.
For the last several years IHYA Productions and now the Foundation, has sponsored students to study sacred knowledge full-time with qualified teachers. Several of these students will soon be in a position to serve our community by teaching what they have spent years learning at the feet of our scholars.
IHYA members are young men and women who refuse to wear the badges of imported political parties or carry the baggage of dislocated cultures. As members of a faith community faced with many challenges since the tragedy of September 11, 2001 IHYA leaders have been out and about forging alliances with like-minded people of all races, cultures and religion who are willing to say no to terror and extremism.
IHYA is committed to working with all citizens of our great country who share a common vision of living in a society and a world free from war, terror, invasion, bullying and corporate greed.
IHYA invites you to abandon the sidelines and join us, lock arms with us, as we move forward to create a unique space marked by tolerance, love and respect between and among all citizens. Perhaps in our shadows we will leave something behind for our children and grandchildren to enjoy and build upon.
