The Tunisian website BusinessNews.com.tn is reporting that an article by Erriadh, a newspaper deemed close to the Saudi royal Palace, criticized Rachid Ghannouchi for having predicted that the Arab spring will reach Gulf’s monarchies. Point de Bascule translated the article in English:

(Translation PdeB) In its December 14, 2011 issue, Erriadh, a very official newspaper deemed close to the Saudi royal Palace, stated that while Tunisian president Moncef Marzouki has been calm, sensible and balanced in his recent remarks, Rachid Ghannouchi has made contradictory statements as if his state of mind was affected by the weather and the circumstances.

While in the United States recently, Rachid Ghannouchi “apparently blinded by the spotlight that is on him” did not hesitate to claim that “the Arab spring will uproot all Gulf States’ kings, sheiks and emirs.”
The newspaper concluded with irony that “Saudis do not envy Ghannouchi for his vision and his predictions. At this stage, Ghannouchi needs to show more balance instead of trying to export revolution like his mentor, Ayatollah Khomeini.”
A question comes to mind: Is Qatar and its Emir part of these States where Ghannouchi has predicted that monarchy will be uprooted?!
Recently, Ghannouchi praised the role that Qatar played in the Tunisian and Arab revolutions by adopting them in its media. (GMBDR)
The Muslim Brotherhood spiritual guide, Youssef Qaradawi, a close ally of Ghannouchi, is associated with Al-Jazeera TV network that is owned by the Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. In 2010, Qaradawi credited the Emir of Qatar for having convinced the U.S. authorities to keep him off the U.S. terror list. (GMBDR)
