Re: Minister MacKay’s decision to stop Imam Delic of the Canadian Islamic Congress from speaking at the DND
Dear Prime Minister,
On behalf of the Muslim Canadian Congress (MCC) I would like to thank your government for the decision by Minister Peter Mackay to bar Imam Ziad Delic of the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC) from speaking at an internal event at Department of National Defence (DND) headquarters, marked to observe the so-called Islamic History Month.
The decision by Minister MacKay has given us hope that we liberal Muslims too are part of this society and that the clerics we escaped from Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Bosnia will not be allowed to become our self-styled leaders pushing the most orthodox and medieval notions of culture, religion and history.
We believe that if at all the DND needed input about Islamic history, they should have invited academics and authors who have written extensively on this matter and reside in Canada. Prof. Salim Mansur and author Tarek Fatah are just a couple of examples.
We in the MCC believe that whereas religion has a very important role to play in our society as a moral compass, we feel religion should not be interwoven with politics and government policy should not be influenced by clerics from any faith. In addition, observing the Islamic History Month may seem to be a good idea as a way of doing outreach to the Muslim community, but experience has shown that it has become a tool that allows for Islamists to validate their political ideology that is rooted in the Muslim Brotherhood. They subtly pursue the application of Sharia Law that has brought untold misery to the Muslim world. This ideology should not be allowed to take root in Canada under the guise of multiculturalism.
Moreover, if it is okay to observe an Islamic History Month, what will be next? A Hindu History Month? And other months set aside for the Baha’i faith, Sikhism or Jewish history?
In the past few years we have seen the so-called Islamic History Month turned into a propaganda machine for the Islamists who wish to hide behind the cover of teaching history but have managed to infiltrate many levels of government in Ottawa. Whether it is the Muslim Working Group at DFAIT or the Roundtable on Security, Islamists who support Hamas, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood and the murderous regime of Iran have managed to monopolize the discourse and isolate other Muslims who feel they are first and foremost Canadian and not necessarily members of the worldwide so called Ummah that is directed from Islamic centres in the Middle East.
We Muslims have much to be proud off in our heritage, but what the CIC and other Islamists have been doing is to spread the doctrine of Islamism wrapped in a sugar-coated view of the past that glosses over the facts and blames the West for today’s near universal morass and decay in Islamic societies worldwide.
We hope your government will look into the slow, but steady infiltration of Islamists inside government institutions; men and women who are inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan Albanna and his deputy Syed Qutb. Both gentlemen have preached jihad against the West and asked ordinary Muslims to wage war on the “infidel”.
People have to right to their beliefs, but we feel those spreading the dangerous ideology of Islam-o-fascism and armed jihad against the West and those who fail to renounce this doctrine, should have no place in government taxpayer funded advisory bodies.
We once again thank you for having the courage to call a spade a spade and for standing up against the blackmail by Islamists who accuse any critic of theirs by the allegation of racism or “Islamophobia”.
Yours truly,
Sohail Raza
