Original title: Time to talk Canadian values
When we think of shared Canadian values, implementing Sharia law and being tied to an alleged terrorist fundraiser doesn’t exactly come to mind.
But it’s not entirely clear Liberal leader Justin Trudeau agrees.
Last week the Islamic Society of North America Canada had its charitable status revoked due to ties to an alleged terrorist organization.
That’s clearly a very bad thing.
The Mississauga-based organization’s activities run from sending money to foreign groups to providing halal certification to companies like Maple Lodge Farms.
The group has been labelled “Islamist” by the Muslim Canadian Congress for its pro- Sharia views, among others.
This is the same group Trudeau spoke at for a Ramadan event in July. Ouch. He must certainly regret that now. Right? Sun Media asked him that very question.
His response: “Part of my job is to speak with as many Canadians as possible and get out and talk to people about the kinds of shared values we have. And whether it’s me speaking there, or Jason Kenney having spoken there a number of times, for me, the support that we need to give as politicians to making sure that Canadians of all different backgrounds, of all different religions understand that they are part of … our shared country and our shared future.”
Say what?! Shared values? Does this mean Trudeau is planning to acquire ties to terror groups himself? And by shared future, does he mean he’s going to work with them to implement Sharia?
This is embarrassing.
By referencing Kenney, he’s suggesting two wrongs make a right. Former immigration minister Jason Kenney has been a flagrant panderer to ISNA Canada.
In fact, the year after the American ISNA was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a 2007 U.S. terror financing case, he told ISNA Canada he wants “closer dialogue between the government of Canada, the Conservative Party of Canada, and the Muslim community in general, ISNA in particular.” Shameful.
Kenney’s statements are, in fact, worse.
We expect Trudeau to be clueless. We expect better of Kenney.
There’s a chance these politicians will be our next two successive prime ministers.
We need to better understand what values they believe are worth sharing.
